Five Songs for Dark Voice | COMPLETED: 10/16 | RUNNING TIME: 12’39”

Performance of Harry Somer’s rarely-performed Five Songs for Dark Voice for a fundraiser for children in Haiti; recontextualizing the piece to highlight both to the plight of Haiti, and the apathy of Toronto.
Composed in 1956 using the urban landscape of Toronto as metaphor for alienation, it was also the year Paul Magloire (the Haitian military ruler responsible for Haiti’s dependence on Western tourism and money) was overthrown.
